- Give to a Local...
Mental health is now the UK’s top health concern, overtaking even cancer worries. Over a million people are waiting for NHS care. How many more people must reach breaking point before they get the support they desperately need?
The demand for help has never been more urgent. In 2023 alone, we’ve supported over 22,000 people, but we simply cannot support the growing number of people in our communities who need us without your help.
As a Local Mind charity, we’re committed to helping the local minds in our community – but we can’t do it alone. We’re calling on the people of Brent, Kensington & Chelsea, Wandsworth, Westminster and beyond to support our Winter Appeal. Everyone has a part to play in building a stronger, healthier community.
Mary’s Story – A Lifeline in the Darkest Hour
In 2021, Mary’s world was shattered when she lost her daughter, Ellie, to suicide, following Ellie’s long battle with intense psychosis. Crippled by unimaginable grief, Mary was barely able to function and desperate for help. Yet, when she reached out, she was told she’d need to wait six weeks for support.
Within days, our Suicide Bereavement Service reached out, offering Mary immediate and compassionate support. She has formed a deep, lasting bond with her Bereavement Officer, stating they made her “safe in an uncertain world.” Mary shared, “I realised I had someone on my side – someone looking out for me at a time when an atomic bomb has gone off.”
Mary is clear: without BWW Mind’s support, she wouldn’t be here today.
Every suicide can affect up to 135 people and those bereaved by suicide are 65% more likely to attempt suicide themselves. Help us to provide the same lifeline to others like Mary, giving them the support they need to navigate their darkest days.

Why now?
We know that shorter days and colder nights can intensify feelings of isolation and anxiety. Coupled with the pressures of the holiday season – navigating grief, family dynamics and expectations – winter can be one of the hardest times of the year for those struggling with mental health.
Through our Winter Appeal, we aim to raise both awareness and vital funds for our services, which are a lifeline for so many in our community.
